About KnownWaters

Built from life onboard.

KnownWaters exists to keep a yacht’s operational knowledge onboard, organised, searchable and useful long after the crew who discovered it have moved on.

Why it exists

Yachts learn constantly. Too much of that knowledge disappears.

Every season, crews learn which tender drops actually work, which restaurants look after guests properly, where the safest anchorages are, which suppliers can be trusted and dozens of other details that make operations run smoothly.

Too often, that knowledge lives in WhatsApp chats, screenshots, Google Earth pins or individual crew members’ heads.

When people leave, the yacht loses part of what it has learned.

What we built

A permanent home for your yacht’s knowledge.

Capture what matters

Locations, contacts, warnings, guest preferences and operational knowledge, saved when the crew discovers it.

Keep it organised

Knowledge is tied to locations, reviewed by the bridge and stored in one trusted vessel knowledge base.

Keep it onboard

Your data stays isolated to your yacht. It is not pooled into a shared industry database.

Built by crew

Designed from onboard experience, not from the outside looking in.

KnownWaters was founded by Lewis Dixon while working onboard a superyacht.

The idea came from seeing the same problem repeatedly: crews build up valuable operational knowledge over months and years, but much of it disappears through crew turnover, fragmented systems and informal handovers.

KnownWaters was built to give that knowledge a permanent home onboard.
